Removing many/most of the background elements on the high-ping-custom-model level seems to delay the ping spike for some time. WebI used that guide and the linked program (Hugin) not create a background from a game but I made a panorama of my living room. Now I can invite my friends into my living room to play some tabletop which is pretty sweet. Some patience is required though and a tripod for the camera highly recommended.
